Godna art does not shy away from time-taking fine detailing, repetitious imagery and storytelling from the epics or deities followed by their caste. These paintings largely composed of rows and concentric circles of flowers, fields, animals, figures and spirits drawn with a pointed bamboo pen using natural colours and permanent ink. Shravan Kumar fondly remembers the early days of his training under the supervision of his mother. It was fascinating as a child for him to see his mother work and under her expert supervision and months of hard work; Shravan ji mastered the techniques of this craft form. Today he, along with his son and other members of the family, manages their primary markets at various Shilpa Bazar and trade fairs across the country. |
